Airfix Jet Provosts

I have decided, rather than stick with the timetable and move on to a rotary wing build, to stick with jets for the moment.

The reason for this is that Airfix recently released a new Jet provost. This a new tool of a T.3.

but sitting in the stash is a Strikemaster/Provost T.5. This is the 1974 tooling. I could have sold it on Ebay, from whence it came, but thought it would be an interesting project to directly compare the two kits, and how things have changed in the 40+ years between the two.

So let’s start with the boxes.

The T.3 comes in the current Airfix box, double walled and printed brightly top and bottom. The artwork is dramatic and digitally produced, with the in box options clearly shown on the lid.

The T.5 is a much simpler, and thinner gauge box. The artwork hand-painted. Rather than the full nomenclature the box states simply “Strikemaster” with no indication at all that there is an option in the box.

Tomorrow I will look at the changes in the instructions provided.
